The Corniche Angevine

Vue de la Corniche

The departement of Main et Loire is divided in 2 geological parts. The eastern side is part of the Paris Basin. It is the white freestone's country which was used to buils the castles of the Loire Valley. The western half (St Aubin de Luigné) is part of the Armorican Massif (from the Paleazoic era)

The movements of the plates has caused the fault of the Layon, which is called "the Corniche Angevine". It is the point of separation between the Loire en the Layon, but it is also a place of diversity of soils.

In our soil, schists are very present. We also find the groove coal and a small line of hard limestons.
